Pakistan finalises plan to boost meat exports to Malaysia with $200 million target.

On Friday, the Ministry of Commerce announced that a high-level meeting has concluded Pakistan’s business strategy for increasing meat exports to Malaysia.
The session was co-chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan, Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, alongside officials from pertinent ministries, technical specialists, and private sector representatives present.
Officials updated the meeting on the completed plan, which intends to elevate Pakistan’s halal meat exports to Malaysia to $200 million within the next three to five years. Pakistan is presently exporting buffalo meat valued at just $38,000 to Malaysia.
Haroon Akhtar stated that a streamlined framework has been created to facilitate the growth of meat exports, indicating that responsibilities and deadlines have been allocated to each pertinent sector to achieve the export goal. He further declared that the halal meat industry would receive official status to encourage expansion.
The committee recognized major challenges confronting the sector — such as foot-and-mouth disease, processing deficiencies, and logistical problems — that must be tackled to enhance the competitiveness of Pakistani exports.
Jam Kamal highlighted that the export package was completed with agreement from all stakeholders and stressed the importance of financial support from the banking sector as well as federal and provincial authorities to lower export expenses.
Rana Tanveer Hussain informed the meeting that new slaughterhouses adhering to Malaysian standards would be established to enhance compliance and reinforce Pakistan’s stance in the Malaysian market
