Pakistan successfully launched a remote sensing satellite from a launch centre in China on Thursday that aims to strengthen Pakistan’s agricultural monitoring and disaster management, among other capabilities, according to a Foreign Office statement.

ISLAMABAD/BEIJING, July 31 – In a major development in bilateral collaboration and technology enhancement, Pakistan successfully sent its Remote Sensing Satellite into orbit from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre (XSLC) in China, as reported by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The launch was conducted by Pakistan’s national space agency, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), in partnership with the China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) and Microsat China. The Ministry emphasized that the satellite will deliver high-resolution imagery continuously, significantly boosting Pakistan’s abilities in fields like urban planning, infrastructure improvement, disaster management, agricultural surveillance, food security, climate change assessment, and water resource oversight.
The Ministry characterized the launch as a “foundation of a cohesive Earth observation system,” emphasizing that the advancement reaffirmed Pakistan’s status among space-faring countries and highlighted the nation’s dedication to utilizing space technology for developmental purposes.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar lauded the efforts of scientists, engineers, and technical teams from Suparco, CETC, and Microsat China, appreciating their “exemplary teamwork and steadfast dedication to the mission.” Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal congratulated the Suparco team and the nation, stating that the satellite has reached its assigned orbit and will soon start transmitting data.
“Iqbal expressed our profound appreciation to China for its ongoing assistance in this project.” “Through collaboration with China, we plan to launch a Pakistani astronaut into space next year, and by 2035, we aspire to finish a lunar mission and touch down on the moon.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif utilized social media to commend Suparco and express gratitude to China for its collaboration, stating, “This accomplishment exemplifies the elevated levels of Pakistan-China cooperation, transcending borders and reaching outer space, fueled by a mutual goal to utilize space technology for the advancement of humanity.”
