CHENGDU: Pakistan’s Mohammad Asif moved to the semi-finals of the World Games snooker tournament on Tuesday, overcoming Britain’s Zac Cosker 2–0 in their quarter-final match.
Asif controlled the first frame, triumphing 79–15 with an impressive break of 51, and concluded the match with an 89–31 win in the second frame.
A victory in the semi-final will ensure Asif secures a podium position, whereas a defeat will still allow him the opportunity to contend for the bronze medal.
This marks Asif’s second win at the World Games, having secured a thrilling 2-1 victory against Germany’s Alexander Vadau in the previous round, which guarantees his spot in the quarter-finals.
Asif’s outstanding performance placed him in first place in Group B, ensuring his advancement to the quarter-finals. He began his campaign with a solid 2-0 victory against China’s Xiaolong Liang.
The snooker event at the World Games has drawn 12 competitors vying for the prestigious gold medal in Chengdu, China, with Asif representing Pakistan after his victory at the IBSF World Men’s Snooker Championship in Doha last year.
After winning his sixth world title last month at the IBSF World Masters Snooker Championship in Bahrain, Asif, a previous IBSF World champion, is playing really well right now.
